Susan Bushong - Supervisor, LPC, LMFT, Director of Counseling

For over 30 years I have worked with couples, groups, individuals, and families to help them find lasting freedom from difficulties of every kind. Through my years of experience and training, my comfort level as a clinician enables me to work with any kind of challenging situation you may face. My continuing search for the most effective healing methods available fills my life with passion and joy.

Although I have extensive training and experience treating any emotional difficulty, my primary specialties are working with couples seeking intimacy enhancement, couples in crisis or having sexual difficulties, including sexual  compulsivity  and internet pornography, and also working with individuals struggling with eating disorders or compulsive eating. I also work with body image concerns, exercise resistance, depression, anxiety, trauma and abuse from birth through adult life (PTSD).

Throughout my adult life my thirst for knowledge and my desire to help has led me to study and train in a wide variety of Western and Eastern approaches to healing. These include many healing methods for couples such as Imago, Solution Focused Therapy, Gottman methods, and Emotionally Focused Therapy. I may use approaches for individuals and groups such as Gestalt therapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Reparenting Therapy, Hypnotherapy, Breathwork Therapy, Cognitive Therapy, Jungian dream work analysis, and structured as well as psychoanalytic group therapy. When appropriate, I use introspective exercises created for radical forgiveness and shame reduction from my workbook on self-healing. These exercises, which you can learn to do on your own or with your partner, increase the effectiveness and long term success of your personal therapy and couples counseling.

For the first 10 years of my career I trained and led seminars in India, Europe and throughout the United States. I studied with various gurus, shamans, kahunas, and spiritual leaders in the Himalayas and Hawaii. I toured the world with a group of seekers, healers, and therapists dedicated to bringing healing to the world.

The challenges and successes of my own personal journey and healing process has given me the spiritual insight, wisdom, humility, and understanding to empathize with whatever difficulties you may be facing. I am passionate about learning from others and keeping my professional knowledge up to date.

I am an active Member of:
  • The American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists
  • The Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health
  • The National Eating Disorder Association
My formal education and licenses are:
  • Master of Arts in Counseling, Michigan University (1976)
